What we’re looking at

Hemoglobin A1C

Hemoglobin A1c is a crucial blood test used to diagnose diabetes and monitor blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. It provides a long-term view of blood sugar control over the previous two to three months.

In a person without diabetes, the hemoglobin A1c level is typically below 5.7%. However, if your hemoglobin A1c level is 6.5% or higher, it indicates that you have diabetes. A result between 5.7% and 6.4% may indicate prediabetes, which means you have a higher risk of developing diabetes in the future.

If you have diabetes or are at risk of developing diabetes, it's important to have regular hemoglobin A1c tests. By keeping your hemoglobin A1c levels in a healthy range, you can lower your risk of complications and improve your overall health and well-being.
